About Me

Q+A

Hi, I’m Larissa, the silversmith and maker behind Mother Mountain Studio. I work from my rural studio on the northwestern Alta prairies, creating small-batch and one-of-a-kind jewelry slowly and entirely by hand.

I fell in love with silversmithing for the process just as much as the finished pieces. I create jewelry that is unique yet everyday wearable so my customers can admire a little something beautiful in their day-to-day.

My jewelry is deeply influenced by the natural world and my love of floristry/flora in all its forms. Wildflowers, organic shapes, and beautifully imperfect details found in nature continually find their way into what I make.

Working primarily with sterling silver and natural stones, I create pieces that feel feminine and earthy. Jewelry that feels special but can still become part of your everyday. Made slowly, made well, and meant to be worn and loved for years to come.

xo, Larissa

Favourite Flower?

Cosmos FOREVER!

Favourite stone to work with?

A beautiful minty turquoise, of course, but my favourite stone to work with is sapphire! They come in every colour and can withstand the heat of casting. I just adore them.

Why are you so drawn to flora?

My absolute dream job has always been to be a florist, but I’m far too introverted for the hustle and bustle of weekend weddings. I’ve always been an artist and a maker, and when I fell in love with silversmithing seven years ago, the flora slowly found its way in. I don’t think it was ever really intentional; it just naturally became part of the work. Looking at it now, it feels like the most authentic version of me. Making art with my hands, with flora woven into everything.

Mountains or prairies?

Mountains always. I’m from a small mountain town that sits at the start of the Rocky Mountains. They just feel cozy and homey to me.

What’s one piece of jewelry you never take off?

Probably my Oopsie Daisy necklace and a sapphire-cast Riverstone pinky ring.

What does a typical day in the studio look like?

Every day looks a little different, which is one of the things I love most about this work. Some days are spent at the bench sawing, soldering, forming, and setting stones; others are for sketching new ideas, finishing pieces, photographing work, or packing orders. I tend to move between several pieces at once and follow where the creative energy is that day. It’s slow, hands-on work, and there’s always something new taking shape.
